Tonight's Tasting

Happy Friday! With weather as fine as one could hope for in Southern California it's much more difficult to focus on the business at hand, but nonetheless... Tonight we'll be pouring some great stuff - from a crisp, mineral-driven, Sancerre-like Sauvignon Blanc from Breggo in the Anderson Valley (with a 93 point Robert Parker score to boot) to the new "Cain Cuvee." It's sure to impress the many of you that have enjoyed this wine in the past and certain to gain some new fans for its plush, silky-smooth, classic-Napa style. But, the real point of interest might just be the new 2006 Dolcetto release from Bruno Giacosa. Sourced from the Falletto vineyard that supplies the fruit for his flagship Barolo (unquestionably one of the world's greatest wines), it retains the pure character of the grape variety but offers unusual depth and complexity, providing a true experience of this unparalleled terroir at about a 10th of the price of the Barolo.

And if the Dolcetto is this good... I can't wait to see what the 2006 Barolos will be like. Thankfully we only have to get through the incredible 04's and promising 05's before then...

In case you might be out enjoying the sunshine today the Dolcetto is on the list for Saturday as well.
